Benjamin Alejandro was born in Baja California. His recycles popular images in artwork to force the viewer to question reality. Alejandro is best known for the image of his own mug shot which forced him to reflect on the choices he made that resulted in his arrest. The utilization of pop culture images calls into question the societal values of fame, wealth and popularity. The works of Alejandro definitely carry a Warhol feel, mixed with the psycho-political message of pursuing one’s goals. The artist tackles these notions by showing things worth attaining, things perceived as worth attaining and things society wants you to think are worth attaining.
