A New York native, Alec Monopoly has traveled the world creating art, gathering inspiration for his work from the coasts of the U.S. to Asia. Primarily known for his reinvention of the beloved childhood character, the Monopoly Man, the artist’s work ranges from the very political to the commercial. Monopoly was inspired by the billion dollar bank bailouts and depicted a hybrid version of the classic monopoly man and Bernie Madoff. Monopoly has had several first solo shows in New York and was one of the top ten most searched artists searched on Artnet. Monopoly has been compared to contemporary Banksy. In 2013, Monopoly was chosen to host a yacht party at Art Basel Miami Beach sponsored by Samsung, and was also selected to create a piece live on the red carpet for Justin Bieber’s Concert documentary.
With a respect for the common man, Monopoly attempts to create graffiti appealing to more than just those with formal art training. Yet, his powerful pieces pack a potent political punch which makes the viewer question the standard viewpoint.
